This is the place to spread the GOOD word about your GREAT ideas. Those projects or promotional ideas that worked in your area just might work for others. While you’re here read over the ideas left behind and see if there’s something you might want to try in your area. Did it bring in new members or gain your Bethel or jurisdiction some media coverage? Maybe it was just something that everyone had fun doing and helped in your community. We don’t care what it was, just let us know what you did and how it went; give us the details. Send your ideas to Helen Kramer, Promotion Chairperson. Two of these can be printed on 8.5x11 paper, side by side and then cut for insertion in church bulletins or programs. You will need to ask for approval from the church office and perhaps even offer to insert these for the church. For the pdf version, Click Here. For those who do not have Acrobat on their computers, below is the suggested wording of the insert:
Photo Party
Having a photo
party, or video camera party--Its easy-- PHQ
Invitations I suggest that all Bethels make sure and send all PHQ's a notice of PHQ's night. Even if they don't come it will spark memories and maybe they will get active or have children or grandchildren that they could get involved. Just because they are gone let's not forget. Sample News Release for Masonic Newsletters This article was submitted for use in a Masonic monthly news letter. It may be used or adapted for publication as needed.
Pennsylvania Promotional Brochure I noticed the idea pool on the Supreme website and wanted to
share a new idea with you. We had a contest to design a new
promotional poster and in fact, came up with a new brochure out of
it. The back of our brochure was a hand drawing created by a Ellie
King, PHQ of Bethel #1, York, PA. We thought it was so fantastic, we
put it on our new brochure! I have attached this brochure for you.
Please note, we have just completed this project and are launching
this new brochure at our GGC meeting in September! To view or download the Brochure, Click Here Promotional Dance My mother and I had an idea as leaving Supreme. When she was a Jobie (late 60s) Jobie dances were HUGE! Everyone went. And when I was in school (late 90s) high school dances were still popular. She suggested having a bethel sponsor a school dance. Go to the student council and let them know the Jobies would be willing to donate the DJ, man tables, etc. Then see if a local radio station would discount or donate the DJ or ask lodges to pitch in. Hand out brochures on Jobies at the dance and/or wear buttons that say “Ask me about Job’s Daughters”.
Kristie
Kearney Promotional ideas from Supreme Session 2008 Attendees! The following are promotional ideas and fund raising suggestions given to us by daughters and adults at the recent Supreme Session in Madison, Wisconsin. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table and left us an idea. Our winning suggestion comes from Lyla of Bethel #32, Green Bay Wisconsin. We have adapted and expanded it a little. Congratulations Lyla, PARENTS NIGHT OUT (PNO) Offer a Parents Night Out program where parents, (hopefully with young girls) could drop children off at the Bethel location for an overnight babysitting service. This would have to be arranged with the Bethel hall and have one or two adult chaperones and the girls on hand or course. Activity stations could be set up around the room; indoor picnic’s, games and story time before bed. Families would be instructed to bring sleeping bag, change of clothes air mattress and favorite toy. Pick up could be by 10 AM the following day, breakfast included. All done for a nominal charge. What a chance to show off the social and leadership abilities of Job’s Daughters to prospective parents and girls! Advertise to the local OES chapters and Masonic lodges. A great idea for New Years Eve! Darcy of California suggested forming Masonic youth clubs in high and middle school. She tried it and Darcy says it was a hit. By the end of the year they had 3 girls wanting to be members. Public parades are the suggestion from Stacy of British Columbia. She suggests applying for entry into local parades and carry large banners with the JDI wed site shown. (note: linking your promotional work to HIKE and JDI is a good way to get extra publicity) She also suggested that a large fund raising project could be planned with the proceeds going to paid advertisement on TV, radio or in newspapers. Janelle from Wisconsin thinks that working with a well known service organization such as the Lions Club, Rotary Club etc. would be helpful. Janelle also suggested a Blog but not on MySpace. Call it Jobie Space. Samantha From Nebraska Suggests connecting with your local Pizza Hut of a “Hut for HIKE”. A percentage of pizza sales going towards raising money for HIKE. (note: small easel shaped table cards could be done up for each table publicizing the event and JDI’s connection to HIKE. Samantha says that they do it during their Grand Session. Shannon of British Columbia Likes the parade entry Idea too and also suggests that Jobies volunteering to face paint at public activities would be fun. Try putting ads in your school news letters or newspapers might work, too. Kelly in Missouri says that Bethels in her area are planning a regional prospect party to promote the order and have prospects meet the girls. This will include a make and take craft project. Prospects will get a goodie bag including a petition form. She wants scrap books, capes and crowns, girls in formals, skits, and songs. Show what a fun group Job’s Daughters is. Invitations will be sent to all Masonic chapters and lodges, friends, relatives and neighbors. A follow-up after the party is planned. Grace from Ohio wants to get Jobies involved by selling water bottles (note: could be candy or hot dogs etc)at special events and functions in the community. In Virginia, Gabriela also thinks that entering parades, using the school newspaper and getting involved with charity events is a good way to get the word out about JDI. She would also like to see a tea held for past members and their families. Another ides is inviting OES chapters and Masonic Lodges to a special night honoring the Masonic family by doing a special exemplification. Renee from Wisconsin thinks that during Supreme Session (could be Grand Session too) that JDI is advertised on a Billboard. Girls cold also wear special ”ask me about Job’s Daughters” t-shirts to special parades and community events. Ohio OES Speech Written By: Karen Eberl PHQ #11, Ohio Grand Bethel Honored Queen 07-08, With Major Assistance From: Gwendolyn Ohlemacher PHQ #31, Ohio Miss Job’s Daughter/Ohio Miss Congeniality 2007-2008 Background of the Speech: The prompt was given to each youth representative (Job’s, Rainbow, and DeMolay) to explain what their organization is and what it means to them. After countless ideas, and changing topics many times, the following Alphabet version was created. SPEECH: To the Worthy Grand Matron, Worthy Grand Patron, Distinguished Guests, members of Eastern Star, friends and family. Good Evening! Thank you very much for the courtesies extended to me. It is my pleasure to bring greetings on behalf of Ohio Job’s Daughters, our Grand Guardian Mrs. Smith, and Associate Grand Guardian Mr. West. \Being asked to explain Job’s Daughters is something that comes naturally to me. I could tell you what our website says about our order, but I am going to assume most of you have heard that already. I have decided to become creative tonight, and use my ABC’s to explain our beautiful order. I promise all 26 letters are included just listen carefully. Our members AGES range from 10 to 20. We BASE our work upon BOOK of Job. Our top three officers wear CAPES and CROWNS. We are DIGNIFIED in our manners, and EXCITING to work with. All of our members FORM life long FRIENDSHIPS, and create extended FAMILIES. During our meetings we wear traditional GRECIAN robes. The HEARING Impaired Kids Endowment fund is our philanthropic project. We are an INTERNATIONAL organization, with Bethels in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Philippines, and the USA. You will hear JOYFUL sounds of song during our meetings while our voices are assisted by a KEYBOARD piano. Each of our members LEARN how to become a strong LEADER. We value our MASONIC heritage, since that is what makes us unique. There is NEVER a dull moment when you are with Jobies. We are always ON OUR toes, since we balance, many things. In our meetings, we get to PRACTICE and improve upon our PUBLIC speaking. We are very QUAINT when in public. Each of our members RESPECT their elders. All members become SISTERS to each other. We are TOTALLY devoted to our order. We are UPSTANDING, VIVACIOUS, and WELL rounded young WOMEN. A Jobie is never XEROFLULOGITIS (pronounced zero-flu-lo-jitis). Okay, so I needed a word for x and found xeroflulogitis, which means at a loss for words. So a jobie is never at a loss for words. We hold YEARLY state activities and have lots of fun! ZOPHAR, Eliphaz, and Bildad are Job’s three friends from the Far East. A lesson we learn during our meetings. So that’s my ABC’s! Also, I do want you to know that Job’s Daughters has become a major part of my life. I joined when I was 12, and believe it or not I was very quiet and shy. But now 7 years later almost to the day, I am here speaking to you as a confident young woman. Job’s Daughters has meant so much in my life. I think the greatest things I have gotten from Job’s Daughters are Leadership, public speaking, my Masonic heritage, and most of all, my friends and family that I have created by being in this order. Two years ago, without Jobs, I probably would not have gone before my peers in my 500 member senior class and auditioned to be a commencement speaker. Also, I probably wouldn’t have become an officer and leader in many of my school clubs and organizations without the skills I learned in Jobs. Without Job’s I wouldn’t be who I am today, and I have you, our Eastern Stars and Masons to thank for that. Both of your organizations helped Job’s Daughters form in Omaha, Nebraska 86 years ago. So, thank you for helping me and all my Job’s sisters to become who we are today, and thank you for the heritage and support that you give every member of Job’s Daughters. Have a wonderful evening and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Hi there! I just had an idea I'd look to contribute to the idea pool. This comes from Bethel #3, Rawlins Wyoming. Several years ago, we had a GG (Cindy Gruewell) and an AGG (Mike James) who asked that each bethel do a 'Sowing Seeds of Kindness' project. It was to be a community project where it was completely volunteer work. Our bethel liked it so much, we continued it. Each term, the HQ plans the Sowing Seeds of Kindness project. We have collected and donated toys and treats for the animal shelter, made homemade Easter cards for the residents at the Senior Center, and done traveling bake sales where the proceeds went entirely to a charity. It’s a fun way to spend time with your bethel girls, make a difference, and we make sure to let the paper here know. They are always happy to come take photos and include us in the paper – it’s great PR. We also always make sure to submit an article an photo for the news paper when we return from Grand Session detailing all the awards won, and positions received that year. Jobie Love, |
