MIJD August Activities…

WYOMING  WISCONSIN   MINNESOTA

 Salutations!

This sure has been a busy month, and I have already had a ball!

WYOMING

My travels first started off in Wyoming, where I was invited to attend the Grand Lodge meeting in Cheyenne, WY, and the Grand Chapter Meeting OES in Casper, WY.  At both events I was welcomed with smiles and hugs from my Wyoming family.  It was great to see everyone before I left to thank them for their support through my years as a Job’s Daughter and now as Miss International- they really are the best Masonic family anyone could ask for.

My first major trip started off in Peoria, IL, the home of the Associate Supreme Guardian, Uncle Tom Sapp, his wife Aunt Carol, and their two puppies, Holly and Sassy- the latter two are the ones who really run the household! J  We stayed there long enough to unpack, eat a quick bite, and repack for the Wisconsin Jamboree.

WISCONSIN

The Jamboree was held in Green Lake, Wisconsin- what a beautiful place!  The first night we were there, I participated in their skit night.  My first introduction to the state was dressed up as a pirate for our “Ye Chosen Matey” skit- and the rest of the time I was there I was greeted with an “ARRRGH” pirate hello.  Those girls are very creative and sure know how to have a good time!  Also at this event I was able to attend the Grand Bethel meeting, which was presided by Abbey June, I was very impressed by the ritual work of the Wisconsin Grand Bethel.  We also watched the crowning of the Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin Congeniality that night.  Nine contestants were represented and did a beautiful job!  Following the pageant was a spectacular event- we watched an amazing firework show on the lake, we all ooh-ed and awed as the show went on, it was by far one of the best I have ever seen!  The Grand Bethel Installation was the next morning, and it was great to see the support of so many Masonic bodies that were there.  Once again, the ritual work was performed beautifully and left a lasting impact on me of the Wisconsin Job’s Daughters.

I stayed in Peoria, IL that next week.  In between the trips we saw two initiations held in Bethel 98 Crystal Lake and in Bethel #55 Pekin.  Both Bethels did beautiful work, and it was wonderful to watch a total of four girls initiated into our Order- Good work girls!  Soon we were off and packing for camp in Brainerd, Minnesota.

MINNESOTA

Camp is an experience!  I played kickball, did a paddle-less canoe race, some archery, a polar bear swim at 7:00 am, watched some volleyball, got sent to HIKE jail, had way too much fun during the karaoke nights, and made it across the water weenie.  That’s right, a water weenie.  It is a big inflated balloon- about 20 feet long- that is at the end of a 10 yard dock.  It is slippery, and whoever makes it across the most times is crowned “Queenie of the Weenie” and gets a waterproof crown and sash. I am proud to say that I made it across four times!  The theme of the camp was Heroes and Villains, and we had a lot of fun dressing up as the “Supreme Team”.  I also want to note their efforts in raising money for HIKE- with the HIKE jail, selling bracelets, popcorn, snow cones, and writing on the bald heads of a few brave men, they raised over a thousand dollars!  WOW!  Super job Minnesota!!

I would like to thank all of the adults and girls I have met so far for making me feel at home when Wyoming is so far away.  I have meet tons of great people, and I look forward to seeing you again down the road.
