YPP Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I view the program?

A:

The JDI Youth Protection Program and Policy document is viewable by Clicking Here.  This is the revised document posted 1/8/2009.

Q:

How much will this cost?

A:

The Certified Adult Volunteer (CAV) Application fee is $44.00 and includes the cost of the Background Investigation.   Thereafter, the annual CAV renewal fee is $18.00

Q:

When can I be trained as a CAV?

A:

Every Jurisdiction either has or will be contacted shortly to develop their own Implementation Schedule.  The Kickoff Dates and Compliance Dates will be listed in the table at the bottom of this page.  Please remember that this schedule is in the early stages of development and will be updated frequently as new dates are added.

Q: What does the CAV training involve?
A:

The training runs about 6 hours (sometimes more, depending on the number of questions asked from the trainees).  The training is divided into 3 major sections:

First Section, Basic Training: As we are reaching out to large numbers of volunteers for the first time, it is necessary that we are all on the same page regarding the basic rules, regulations and practices of the Order.  This can be an enlightening process, even for those who have been associated with Job's Daughters for some time.

Second Section, JDI Youth Protection Policy and Guidelines:  This section will describe how our young people view their world and will detail how they tend to interact with their peers and the adults in their lives.  It will also acquaint trainees with the JDI Youth Protection Policy itself, as well as how its various sections affect our members and our adult volunteers.

Third Section, Protecting our Youth:  This section details the major problems facing our young people.  It will help our adult volunteers to recognize at-risk youth, and how to respond to various situations that may arise.  Specific ideas and examples will be given on how to protect our members, including telephone numbers and websites for Child Protection agencies for JDI Jurisdictions in the United States..

Q:

How much time will my Jurisdiction be allowed to reach full compliance?

A:

The length of time allowed for a Jurisdiction to reach full compliance depends on the size of that Jurisdiction.  This is being arranged with the leaders of each Jurisdiction.

Q:

Will the Application Forms be available on the web?

A:

In order for us to have a smooth roll-out of the plan, the CAV Application form will not be available on the web.  However, the CAV Renewal Form is available on the web.  You can obtain it by Clicking Here.

Additional information updated 3/6/2009

Q: You say that the JDI Youth Protection Program & Policy Document has been revised.  How so?
A:

In general there have been some housekeeping changes in regards to some typos as well as some new wording made in order to clarify certain procedures.  In addition, the following additions have been adopted by the board:  1.) Once a person is trained, they have 6 months to make an application to the Supreme Office for their CAV Card.  If they do not make their application within that timeframe, then they will have to be retrained in order to apply.  2.) A denied applicant cannot reapply for a period of one year.  If you have further questions regarding these changes, please direct them to the YPP Implementation Coordinator, Shelly Cole, at GoJobie@aol.com

Q:
If I decide to not go through the CAV process or I am denied,  do I lose my titles and my voting credentials at the Grand or Supreme level?
A: No.  All previous titles and voting credentials are still in tact.  Your eligibility to vote at the Grand or Supreme level does not depend on your CAV status.
Q: If I am not a CAV can I still attend Bethel meetings and functions?
A: Yes.  You can still attend meetings and functions, however, you would be ineligible to chaperone or drive any Daughter not related to you.  Additionally, you would not be able to act in any type of leadership position such as a council or committee member or protem these positions.
Q: If I have a security clearance from the government or a background investigation from school, work, DeMolay or other youth group, can I just use that instead and skip the JDI process?
A: No.  Each organization or entity has their own standards and training.  Additionally, the US government views the sharing of this information by these entities as a violation of privacy.  To be a CAV of JDI you must go through the entire process.  Plus, there is a great deal of information provided in the CAV Training that is JDI specific and could not be obtained through any other training.
Q: How will my personal information be secured?
A: Only bonded employees in the JDI Supreme Office handle personal information.   Information such as your Social Security Number are not kept in the JDI database or made available to anyone else in Job's Daughters.  When undergoing the background investigation portion of the process, your information is securely transmitted to the background investigation company.   The background investigation company is licensed and bonded.
Q: Does the Background Check involve a Credit Check as well?
A: No, JDI does not, and has never done, any sort of a Credit Check.

To ensure accurate information, all questions regarding the JDI Youth Protection Program should be directed to the YPP Implementation Coordinator, Shelly Cole, at GoJobie@aol.com.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a Certified Adult Volunteer Trainer

Q: What is a Certified Adult Volunteer Trainer?
A: A Certified Adult Volunteer Trainer (CAVT) is an officially recognized trainer for the JDI Youth Protection Program and has been issued and instructed on the officially recognized training materials.
Q: What is the role of a CAVT?
A: The role of a CAVT is to train Certified Adult Volunteer (CAV) applicants according to JDI standards and certify that they have been fully briefed on the JDI Youth Protection Policies and Guidelines.
Q: Can anybody be a CAVT?
A: Only a Certified Adult Volunteer (CAV) may apply to be a trainer.
Q: What are some other qualifications that a CAVT must have?
A:

A CAVT must be comfortable speaking about difficult topics in front of strangers. They must have some background experience or knowledge of working with adolescents. They must be able to answer questions from trainees about JDI structure and the JDI Youth Protection Program, as well as issues around abuse, neglect, mental health, alcohol, drugs and internet safety. While we have information about all these issues in our training manual and can train a CAVT on all these things, questions will arise from the trainees that you need to be comfortable answering. Having been a member of Job’s Daughters, in and of itself doesn’t qualify someone to be a CAVT. It doesn’t mean they are excluded of course, it just means an applicant needs to consider what other qualifications and/or experiences they have that enrich that wonderful life experience. This is why on our CAVT Application form we ask questions about education background, work experiences, etc.

Q: What is the process for becoming a CAVT?
A:
  • Application must be made using the CAVT Application Form YPP 003.
  • Interviews will be conducted by the Executive Manager of JDI and at least one other CAVT.
  • Attendance at a CAVT Training Class.
  • Monitoring of an Adult Volunteer Training Class conducted by another CAVT.
  • Conducting an Adult Volunteer Training Class with an assigned CAVT monitor in attendance.
  • A CAVT card will be issued by the Executive Manager upon successful completion of this process.
Q: How long does someone's CAVT Status last?
A: A CAVT must maintain continual CAV status as well as re-certify/renew their CAVT status every five years. Additionally, they must conduct a minimum of five trainings during those five years. Finally, the JDI Board of Trustees reserves the right to revoke a CAVT’s training credentials.
Q: Does a CAVT schedule Training Sessions?
A: No.  All Adult Volunteer Trainings are scheduled through designated YPP coordinators.
Q: Who are the YPP Coordinators?
A: As of now, YPP Implementation Coordinator Shelly Cole would be the one to schedule all training sessions.  In time, regional coordinators will be added and they will be listed as they are appointed.  Shelly Cole may be contacted at GoJobie@aol.com.
Q: Where can I get an application form to become a CAVT?
A: Click Here.
